Portraits - Andrew Danson

After some visits to Jamaica as 'tourist' I returned and stayed with Jamaicans who were to become my friends in the small town of Falmouth on the North Coast. I stayed with 'Vee' and her children meeting friends, neighbours and some townspeople who were curious about the white guy living amongst them. I set up a small outdoor studio in Vee's yard and photographed some of the people I met. I gave each person an instant Polaroid photo; some had not seen photos of themselves before.

I discovered a sense about Jah and a spiritual belief from African roots which has never left me. White folk should learn more about people from African roots and their diverse realities.
